On behalf of the Province of Zeeland, Aqua Vision BV conducted flow velocity measurements in the Bocht van Bath. The aim of this project was to accurately determine how the breakwaters and longitudinal dams affect cross-currents in the main navigation channel, as well as the sedimentation and erosion patterns on nearby mudflats.

Aqua Vision BV monitored the effects of these structures by performing flow velocity measurements using accurately positioned Teledyne RiverPro ADCPs. The collected data was then analyzed using ViSea DAS and ViSea DPS to evaluate changes compared to Rijkswaterstaat’s 2017 T0-measurement

The data gathered was processed using ViSea Data Processing Software, providing detailed insights into flow velocity and sedimentation patterns. This information contributes greatly to the broader ecological restoration program and offers essential insights into the effects of the dams on natural processes within the estuarine system.

Aqua Vision was responsible for all phases of the project, from mobilization to the installation of the equipment, as well as data processing and validation. Thanks to this hydrographic research, there is now a better understanding of the changes in water and sediment management in the Westerschelde.
